• This institution was founded on July 1, 1999 at the same location of the formerly known as “Taoyuan Juvenile Detention House, Taiwan”. In consideration of the increase in female offenders and in order to implement the policy of separate prison management, on January 1, 2001, with the establishment of the Agency of Correction, the name was changed to Taoyuan Women’s Prison, Agency of Correction, Ministry of Justice.
• The institution imprisons those female inmates serving prison sentences of criminal code offense, detention and those women who are serving a rehabilitation (detoxification) treatment sentence for violating the Drug Prevention and Control Act.
• The legal capacity is 1027; however, usually there are 1260 to 1300 inmates, a 23% over the capacity, of which 50 to 70 are those receiving rehabilitation (detoxification) treatments.
